Spin the Dreidel
SPIN THE HANUKKAH DREIDEL: Nothing works better at your Hanukkah celebration than the traditional party games. A great and traditional game to play, this one should not be missed at any Hanukkah celebration. Spin the Dreidel is a traditional Hanukkah game played in Jewish homes all over the world. Here is how to play the basic Dreidel game. Any number of people can take part in this great Hanukkah game. Each player begins with an equal number of game pieces (about 10-15) such as pennies, nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, matchsticks, etc. At the beginning of each round, every participant puts one game piece into the center "pot". In addition, every time the pot is empty or has only one game pieces left, every player should put one piece in the pot. When it is your turn, spin the Dreidel once. Depending on the outcome, you give or get game pieces from the pot. NUN - means nothing, the player does nothing. GIMMEL - means everything, the player gets everything in the pot. HEY - means half. The player gets half of the pot. SHIN - means "put in", the player adds a game piece to the pot. If you find that you have no game pieces left, you are out. The game continues until all but one player is "out". For the winner of the game, make sure to provide them with a party favor that will help them to remember the meaning of Hanukkah. You can even give each player their own Dreidel to take home with them as a gift for playing the game. For even more fun, have the guests make up their own driedel for this party game.
